Epworth to host Community Health Awareness Night April 9

Mar 31, 2013

The Cancer In Common Support Group of Epworth United Methodist Church will sponsor the first Community Health Awareness Night starting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, with soup and sharing in the Fellowship Hall. An inspirational film and program will begin at 6:45 p.m., including guests from Cancer In Common, Tunnell Cancer Center, the Sharing Our Stories, Saving Our Sisters program and other cancer-related organizations.

These guests will be available to inform and encourage everyone to take charge of their health, particularly in the area of cancer screenings. The SOS2 program is made possible through a grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Philadelphia Affiliate. This evening of fellowship and information is free of charge and open to the public.

The program will provide information about prevention and early detection of diseases and cancers. There will also be many guests available at the event who are familiar with and available to discuss programs and screenings available in the community, many at reduced or no charge.

Event Coordinator Kaye Webb said, “As people of faith in the Cape Region, we are encouraged to be vigilant in caring for our own health, that of our families and extending ourselves to be caring for the health of our neighbors. In a financially difficult time, we need to share our knowledge of helpful measures and programs to help people that otherwise couldn’t afford screenings and may not be aware of their importance.”

Health Ministers, Caring Ministries and interested persons are encouraged to participate. RSVP for the soup dinner to misskaye1182@hotmail.com or call Webb at 302-645-9711. Epworth is at 19285 Holland Glade Road in Rehoboth Beach.
