Film society monthly screenings set for Jan. 24 and 25

Jan 11, 2013
Donald Trump is shown in the documentary “You’ve Been Trumped.”

For January’s monthly screening, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present "You’ve Been Trumped” at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at DiFebo’s at Bear Trap Dunes in Ocean View, and also at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway in Rehoboth Beach.

In this David and Goliath story for the 21st century, a group of proud Scottish homeowners takes on celebrity tycoon Donald Trump as he buys up one of Scotland’s last wilderness areas to build a golf resort. Film buffs will recognize the sly, latter-day references to the classic comedy "Local Hero." Documentary fans will appreciate the film’s meticulous unspooling of the real-life events, from Trump’s public relations ploys to the townspeople’s grassroots protests.

Everyone will choose a side and root for a victor, as big business faces off against stubborn resisters of progress in this multiple film festival award winner, including the Best Feature prize at the Edinburgh documentary festival. The Edinburgh Guide calls the film astounding and at times heartwarming, amusing, and most definitely ire-raising.

Admission for monthly screenings is $4 for Rehoboth Beach Film Society members (current membership card must be presented), and $6 for nonmembers. Tickets will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.

The mission of the RBFS is to promote the art of film and, through outreach initiatives, to entertain, educate and enrich the cultural life of local and extended communities. The film society sponsors monthly screenings, special events and the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival (Nov. 6-10, 2013).

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
