Big Fish Grill played host April 27 for the inaugural Big Fish Grill 5K. The event raised funds for the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation.  Two hundred eighty-nine runners turned out on a beautiful spring morning.

Chris Stanley, 44, from Fruitland, Md., was the overall winner in 19:02, with Matt Keller from Millsboro right behind in 19:14. Rick Poppleton won the masters, finishing fifth overall in 19:40.

The women’s division overall winner was Wilmington’s Alison Sanchez in 19:14, finishing third overall with Caitlin DiMondi from Rehoboth finishing behind her in 20:18.

The female masters winner finishing 20th overall was Mardiny Ung from Elizabethtown, Pa., in a time of 22:32.

Runners and guests were treated to a nice post-race party hosted by Big Fish Grill. Holly Monaco, director of dinning operations for Big Fish Restaurant Group, said, “The race is just another way the Big Fish Grill is looking to be involved in the community and especially with the children and families of our area.”

CHEF supports unfunded teaching and learning initiatives in the Cape district, where 49 percent of the students are from low-income families and 17 percent have disabilities requiring extra accommodations for successful learning.

More than $5,000 was raised with this run/walk. Special thanks were extended to sponsors Touch of Italy, Williams Insurance Agency, Broadpoint Construction, Shaun Tull and Bryce Lingo, Hertrich’s, Schell Brothers, Dave Marshall Tennis and the Starboard.
