First Pooches in the Park a wagging good time

By Jessica Gordon | Jun 09, 2013

It can be said with certainty that Saturday, May 18 was a day that went to the dogs! The first ever “Pooches in the Park” was an event full of wags, and The Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park would like to thank all of our furry friends (and their owners) who attended.

We would also like to acknowledge supporters Savannah Animal Hospital and P.U.P.S. (Pawsitively Unique Pet Shop), both in Lewes. Five businesses volunteered to demonstrate their talents; many thanks to Mike Galloway of Delmarva Dock Dogs for the dock diving demonstrations; Tara and Jesse Lausch of Get Your Wag On Pet Services, who introduced us to nose work; Sharon Dorman who taught us about obedience; Terry Maloney of Just Like Home Pet Sitting, who demonstrated how to perform CPR on our pooches; Sally Waldie and the BHAD Agility Club for entertaining us with their skills; and the many four-legged “assistants” who so graciously did whatever was asked of them.

Vendors from near and far joined us as well, informing, entertaining, demonstrating, showcasing, and handing out treats: Canine Cabin, Lewes Unleashed, LEAP (Literacy Education Assistance Pups), Tootie's Poop Patrol, Dr. Jaclyn Wolinsky and Pane in the Glass Studio, LLC. Thank you for your time and effort and for your role in making this event so successful!

Our awesome core of volunteers and board members are always behind the scenes making things happen, and we couldn't do it without them. A special thank you Mary Dunmyer (and Summer and friends), Will Pedigo and board members Steph Boright, Bob Hyberg, Peter Issel, Georgia Tugend and John Ballato for all of their hard work.

There are more exciting events happening throughout the summer at the Lewes Canalfront Park! Friend us on facebook to stay in the know!
