FirstService Residential announces John Degnan as executive director

FirstService Residential, the leading property management company in Maryland and Delaware, announces John Degnan as executive director. Degnan has extensive experience in the community association and hospitality industries, including community planning and budgeting, and resort, country club and restaurant management.

His focus is maintaining and developing industry-leading operational and service standards. Also, he will provide leadership and oversight to FirstService Residential communities and associates in Maryland and Delaware.

Degnan’s career has spanned over 25 years at well-known and prestigious organizations including the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Pierre Hotel and Rockefeller Center, where he honed his customer service and experience skills. His experience also includes director positions at resort locations on Hawaii’s Kohala Coast.

He served as community director for multiple luxury homeowner associations totaling over 1,500 single-family, townhome and condominium units. Degnan was instrumental in the transitioning the community from developer to homeowner control. He created long-term budgets including capital funding, managed the design committee approving and monitoring construction, and oversaw special projects.

Most recently, Degnan served as clubhouse director at Caves Valley Golf Club. Under his leadership, the club experienced the largest fiscal-year revenue generation in its history in 2013. He was responsible for the operations of the two restaurant clubhouses and five cottages totaling 36 rooms.

This included maintenance, housekeeping, and food and beverage operations, as well as oversight of a management team of 10 professionals. Degnan worked closely with the community association manager in various aspects affecting the homeowner association including maintenance and security such as gate upgrades and installation. In addition, he led multiple large-scale capital improvements projects including a roof replacement for cottages and the clubhouse, and a significant expansion to the clubhouse facilities.
