Five Delaware Tech graduates receive Siemens Scholarships

May 31, 2013

Five out of the six Delaware winners of the 2013 Siemens-American Society for Clinical Pathology Scholarships are graduates of Delaware Tech Owens Campus. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the national program, which provides scholarships to deserving students pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees in medical laboratory science or other areas of laboratory medicine.

The recipients, who all received associate degrees from the college’s Medical Laboratory Technician program in the campus’s recent graduation ceremony, include Brittany Adams, Matthew Lewis, Michele Savage, Erica Steele and Hristina Vasileva. The graduating students each received a $1,000 scholarship to help them pursue their future educational goals in the field.

The Siemens-ASCP Scholarship program was created to help address the nation’s shortage of qualified medical laboratory professionals by promoting the profession and defraying students’ education costs.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, medical laboratory technician students must be enrolled in a program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, have a minimum GPA of 2.8, and be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Along with their applications, students must submit transcripts, two letters of recommendation, an essay and an activities list in order to be considered.
