Thoughts From the Sidelines

For now, spring sports are the only thing that's warming up!

This year's NCAA basketball tournament, March Madness, will have one of the most wide open fields in recent history. Warren Buffet has no worries that anyone will be able to pick a perfect bracket! There is no dominant team being touted as a sure winner this year. For me, there are five squads capable of winning this national championship. I'm looking for Michigan State, Kansas University, Duke, Louisville and the University of Florida to make it deep into the tournament. My pick to win is Michigan State. The Spartans will play Delaware in the first round and are certain to take that win. Sad for Delaware that it will be such a short ride, but kudos that Delaware made it to the dance at all! If Michigan State is indeed the winner in the end, Delaware will get some press for being one of the teams to have lost to the eventual national champs. I think it stinks that if you want to try to watch ALL of the first round games, you will have to have extended cable or satellite TV. CBS will cover some, but you will need access to TNT, TBS, and True TV to catch all of that round. CBS will cover all of the later rounds.

I was really looking forward to watching the Paralympics, especially considering how much NBC advertised them during the "regular" Olympics. I came away very disappointed with their efforts. It was difficult to find it on TV and I was only able to watch a few events. What I did get to watch was pretty incredible. The Curling was really cool with the adaptations, and for me, made it more interesting than the usual game. The hockey and skiing were outstanding! The courage and fitness of the athletes deserved much more recognition than the network gave them. I hope the coverage for the Paralympics in the 2016 Summer Olympics is much better.

The golf world is watching anxiously to see if Tiger Woods can remedy this chronic back problem in time to play in The Masters. Even if he has to withdraw, this is one golf event that is worth watching, no matter who shows up. Augusta National is an amazing course.
