Former Dolle's manager indicted on theftInvestigators say he could have stolen thousands
A Sussex County Grand Jury indicted a former manager of Dolle's Candyland in Rehoboth Beach Nov. 18 in connection with felony theft charges.
Petar Dragov, 33, of Millsboro had worked at Dolle's since 2006. He was employed as a production manager until he was terminated in May, said Det. William Sullivan of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department.
Rehoboth Beach police began investigating Dragov after two employees told the store owner they watched Dragov make no-sale transactions on the cash register, Sullivan said.
The owner eventually witnessed such transactions as well, Sullivan said.
The owner could not be reached for comment. No one answered the phone Dec. 2 at the candy store, which has operated in the Rehoboth Beach area since the 1920s. A large orange sign serves as a landmark for the iconic store's boardwalk location.
Sullivan said investigators used surveillance footage from inside Dolle's during the investigation. Dolle's has years of surveillance tape footage, but investigators limited their search to April and May 2013 because of the extent of videotape available, he said. During the two-month time frame, Sullivan estimated Dragov could have taken several thousand dollars.
"The Department of Justice had to set a certain time period in order to indict him," Sullivan said.
Following the indictment, Dragov turned himself in to Rehoboth Beach police Nov. 21 and was charged with felony theft over $1,500. He was released on $3,000 unsecured bond pending an appearance in Sussex County Superior Court at a later date.
