Frances Victoria Showell of Milton celebrated her 100th birthday April 20 at the Clubhouse at Baywood Greens. More  than 100 people attended the party including two children, eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great-grandchildren.

Showell still does her own shopping every week at Hocker’s grocery store in Clarksville and up until one-and-a-half years ago she mowed her own lawn with a push mower. Showell was presented with photos and letters from prominent national leaders and local politicians.

Showell is shown with a personally signed picture of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, who is a distant relative.

Showell was also presented with a letter and signed photo from President Barack Obama. One of her relatives is related to Obama’s Secret Service drivers. She was also presented with a personal handwritten letter from the president and his wife Michelle. (Photo by: Steven Billups)
