Patrick Boettcher was the first out of Jungle Jim’s Water Park June 22 and the first one back, the 32-year-old from Newark handling the large field in a time of 16:47 to win the ninth annual Jungle Jim’s 5K run.

Boettcher wins lots of races at the beach, and it takes a sub-16-minute 5K runner to beat him.

Andrew Smith, 18, was second in 17:18, followed by Jason Belinkie, 17:18; Mike Sewell, 18:04 and Joey Andrisani, 18:10.

The women’s race was won by Cindy Conant, 52, in a time of 19:38, followed by Bridget Danner, 20:01; Eve Hoffman, 20:26; Abby Andrews, 21:15; and Meryl Ludwig, 21:23.

A record number of 382 runners completed the race.

A large number of kids 13 and under completed the race because they love to frolic in the water afterward while their parents are more into wallowing.

Thirty-four girls 13 and under ran the 5K. Lainey Shockey, 7, won the 9 and under in 26:36, followed by Olivia Monti, 8, 28:39 and Devin Hundley, 8, 29:38.

Olivia Weir, 11, won the 10-13 age group in 22:20, followed closely by Lindsay Rambo, 10, in 25:29.

The boys' division had 18 under-13 runners. Garrett Hughes, 9, won the 9 and under in 24:04. Blake Hundley, 11, was the champion in the 10-13 group, followed closely by John Best in 20:44 and D.J. Farren, 11, in 21:58.

Caroline Judge, former Cape all-state field hockey and lacrosse player, now a field hockey player at Northeastern, ran the 5K in 27:27.

Sarah White, former Cape field hockey and lacrosse goalie, ran 26:25, and she continues to beast it up.

Linda Reck, 51, of Rehoboth Beach won her age group in 23:54.

Anthony Romano, 28, the kid who didn’t run in high school at Cape, ran 18:41 to win his age group.

Spencer Steele, 38, and John Jones, 35, continue their crazy quest into distance running with Steele going through the chute first as both ran 21:48.
