Fundraiser for Global Fund Delaware set for June 27
The world-renowned James Beard Foundation honored Matt Haley with the 2014 Humanitarian of the Year award in part due to his work with the Rehoboth Beach-based Global Delaware Fund. Haley started the fund in 2011 to provide goods and services to at-risk children and people in challenging circumstances - both in Delaware and around the world, including Nepal and India.
The Global Delaware Fund will hold its fifth annual fundraiser at 7 p.m., Friday, June 27, at Fish On in the Villages of Five Points, one of eight restaurants under the SoDel Concepts umbrella, part of the Matt Haley Companies.
“I’ve often said that the James Beard Foundation honor is Delaware’s award,” Haley said. “Delaware and those who love the Delaware beaches have been so supportive of the Global Delaware Fund, which has addressed so many important issues in our state.”
The fundraiser, which has regularly garnered about $45,000 per event, will once again feature more than 50 live and silent auction items. As in the past, they’ll include a trip to Tuscany, where Haley has an interest in Conti di San Bonificio, which has a winery, olive oil operation and hotel restaurant. No doubt guests can also expect packages that involve Haley’s eight restaurants, including the new Papá Grande’s Coastal Taquería in Rehoboth, located in the space formerly occupied by Cabo Modern Mexican & Tequila Bar and Chez La Mer. Guests can also bid on packages involving Big Thunder, the company’s new food truck.
The event includes food by Plate Catering, also part of the Matt Haley Companies family, and cocktails, wine and beer. Nearly 100 percent of the ticket sales go toward the charity.
