Gallery 50 presents Wright’s ‘Vessels’ with July 5 reception

6th Annual AIDS Delaware Fine Arts Auction Fundraiser set that evening
Jul 02, 2014
Jason Wright's Vessels opens Saturday, July 5.

Gallery 50 Contemporary Art is proud to welcome Jason Wright back to Rehoboth Beach in a spectacular new exhibition, “Vessels,” Saturday, July 5.

Wright is an artist who creates dramatic paintings through the use of geometric lines and complex perspectives. Inspired by the dwellings in which people live, common objects, and the beauty of simplicity, the work brings life to sometimes overlooked and forgotten elements of the land.  His pared-down images are distilled to their essence and portrayed with graphic style in precise shapes, bold lines and strong colors, giving them immediacy and vigor. With his signature hard-edge style, Wright's work is at its heart a study of the beauty of isolation.

"I paint what I see. You can stand anywhere in the world, look any direction, and you will see hard vs soft. The terra with its hard geometric lines against the sky and its fluidity,” say Wright.

At age 16, Wright was working for Quicksilver, a laid back retailer in Honolulu, Hawaii until he become bored and returned to the life of a surfer.  Once he hit the University of Hawaii, however, he again became serious about his craft.

Over the years  his artwork has been featured in numerous publications, news segments, and design shows, some of which include: NBC News, HGTV, Washintonian, Where Washington, The Skateboard Mag, Surfer Magazine, Art News, The Georgetowner, The Washington Times The Examiner, and 2Modern.

Wright studied painting and graphic design at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. He was immersed in art from a young age, illustrating and designing graphics for the surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding industry.  Apart from his current body of work, he is an accomplished mix media painter, as well as a medaled action sports athlete.  His current work focuses on the theory of shelter, and explores the relationship between the simplistic shape of a home and its ever presence in people's lives. His work is generally rendered in a dusk, dawn, or full moon setting. Wright’s passion for HDR and long exposure photography is showcased in his dramatic skies. His mediums are mainly oil and acrylic, painted with a palette knife.

Wright now resides in Kona, Hawaii, and has exhibited throughout the United States.  He opened The Wright Gallery in 2013.

The Jason Wright “Vessels” show will feature over 14 new works  and is in conjunction with Gallery 50’s 6th Annual AIDS Delaware Fine Arts Auction Fundraiser Saturday, July 5, 6 to 9 p.m. Wright is headlining the evening and party at Gallery 50, which will also include a silent auction with works from over 25 renowned artists, light installation art by Sean Kenny, jewelry by Paul Kerkhoven and a raffle of prizes of fine art, fine jewelry and fine dining in Rehoboth Beach.
