Garden Center to host Harvest Festival and Corn to Run 5K Sept. 28
East Coast Garden Center will celebrate its Seventh Annual Harvest Festival and Second Annual Corn to Run 5K Run/Walk Saturday, Sept. 28. Last year’s Corn to Run drew a great crowd, and organizers are hoping to surpass those numbers in 2013.
Preregistration for the run/walk, a unique race winding 3.1 miles through a cornfield across from East Coast Garden Center, is available at www.seashorestriders.com. Online preregistration is $20; registration on the morning of the event is $25. The first 100 participants to preregister will each receive a tech T-shirt and the top three finishers in eight age groups from 13 & under to 70 & over will receive awards. All proceeds from the race benefit Cordrey Charities, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the joys and benefits of gardening to everyone in the community.
The Harvest Festival immediately follows the race. Enjoy brats with beer from 16 Mile Brewery, country line dancing, hayrides and more from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors can learn about container gardening for all seasons from the garden center's container expert Karen Fox at 1 p.m. and enjoy fall shopping in the garden center among the pansies, pumpkins, scarecrows, witches and goblins all day. East Coast Garden Center is at 30366 Cordrey Road, Millsboro. For information or directions, call 302-945-5853.
