Gazette article an April Fool's Day joke
I was about to respond to Melissa Steele's article covering Mr. Hagan's worries about the use of Huxley's "Brave New World" in an honors level course at Cape Henlopen High School.
Then I realized the piece was an April Fool's Day joke!
How else to explain the completely silly objection to a classic used in high schools for decades?
I, too would be a bit upset, if this book is used only in an honors or AP course; my middle class New Jersey school taught it in ninth grade, in a literature course devoted to utopian and dystopian topics.
The book should be used earlier and more widely.
But, overall a good joke on all of us!
