Genealogical society to hold general membership meeting March 15At the Rehoboth Beach Public Library
”Genealogy of a House” will be presented at the March general meeting of the Sussex County Genealogical Society Saturday, March 15, at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library. Following a brief business meeting at 10:30 a.m., Margaret Raubacher Dunham of the Delaware Public Archives will cover the steps to research a house or property starting with the chain of title and how important deed research is to the whole process.
The presentation covers the different collections in the Delaware archives that can help achieve the goal of dating a building or property. She will also cover learning how to research the people who owned the house or property. Dunham uses scanned documents to show examples of various handwriting and what to expect with the different collections such as deeds, probates and tax assessments, etc.
Dunham was born and raised in Dover and gained a love for history and houses at a young age. She graduated from University of Delaware with a degree in elementary education. After working for museums at the Dickinson Plantation, she ended up at the Delaware archives, where she had been researching since college. Love of old houses and living in one give Dunham a unique perspective on the ins and outs of researching houses, properties, and their occupants.
The public is welcome to attend.
