George 'Billy' Dietrich, Civil War re-enactor
George John “Billy” Dietrich, 67, of Milton passed away Thursday July 25, 2013, at Harbor Healthcare in Lewes.
George was born on April 23, 1946, in Baltimore, Md. He served in the Marines during the Vietnam War. He was a Civil War re-enactor, loved Carey’s Camp, a Christmas enthusiast, enjoyed watching the Baltimore Orioles, and the Indianapolis Colts. He was an outstanding cook, and devoted, loving and cherished husband. He enjoyed camping, especially at Lamb Jam.
He was a member of Carey’s U.M. Church in Millsboro, where he was in the choir, a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher and Lay Leader.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Dietrich.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brenda J. Bunting Dietrich ; two children, Dawn Schoof of Garland, Texas and George J. Dietrich Jr. of Wylie, Texas; four grandchildren from Garland and Wylie; mother-in-law, “Mom”, Ellen C. Bunting of Georgetown; brother-in-law, Gerald M. Townsend of Georgetown; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie K. McIlvain and husband William R. McIlvain Jr. of Milton; nieces and their husbands, Jill K. Conner and Gerald of Smyrna, Melody L.M. Divers and John T. Jr. of Montvale, VAa.; four great-nephews, Breandan and Aedan Connor of Smyrna and Creek and Chapel Divers of Montvale; special friend, Martin Wells of Milton; and furry friend, Joey, his dog.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 29, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call Sunday, July 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Carey’s Camp Cemetery, Millsboro.
