Georgetown couple faces heroin charges
A Georgetown couple was charged with heroin possession and other charges after police say they found the drug during a traffic stop.
Police had received prior information that Betsy Lecates, 31, was buying and using heroin when they stopped her following a traffic violation near East Redden Road and U.S. 113, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
While Lecates was getting her car documents, Fournier said, officers noticed what appeared to be bags of heroin in her purse. She exited the vehicle, and officers found 11 bags of heroin totalling .22 grams inside the car, Fournier said.
Police later searched a home belonging to Lecate's boyfriedn, Brian L. Spencer, in the 18000 block of East Redden Road, and found 12 bags of heroin weighing about .24 grams, Fournier said.
Spencer was charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, second-degree conspiracy, possession of heroin and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $6,400 unsecured bond.
Lecates was charged with possession of heroin and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on $3,000 unsecured bond.
