Georgetown woman injured in crash

By Melissa Steele | Jan 02, 2013

Route 113 north of Millsboro was closed for three hours Jan. 1 after a 79-year-old Georgetown woman crashed into another vehicle and knocked down power lines before her vehicle burst into flames.

Eula M.B. Graves was driving a Chrysler westbound on Avenue of Honor at 11:25 a.m. when she failed to stop at the intersection of Route 113 and struck the rear driver's side of a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old girl, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The Chrysler spun around westbound before striking a utility pole, he said. The impact broke the pole, causing power lines to fall; the car broke into flames ignited by gas cans transported in the car.

Graves was taken to Beebe Medical Center where she was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. She was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield the right of way and no proof of insurance.

The teen was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released. She was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a valid license after police said they found out she took the vehicle without permission.
