Governor's Challenge Basketball Tournament
Wicomico Youth & Civic Center
500 Glen Avenue, Salisbury, MD 21804
Dec 26, 2013
12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
For years, the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center has brought high school boys basketball players together to compete on the hardwood over the holiday break. In 2010, a unique spin was put on the event as Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley issued a challenge to Delaware Governor Jack Markell. The wager: a Maryland Smith Island Cake to a Delaware Peach Pie. The inaugural Governor's Challenge was born, bringing with it a new level of excitement to this holiday basketball classic.
Now in its 4th year the Governor's Challenge is growing even more by adding an AAU division! Five age groups will compete in the AAU division including 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The addition of an AAU division nearly doubles the size of the Governor's Challenge Basketball Festival, as the event is now hosting participants anywhere from 9 to 18 years old. The Wicomico Youth & Civic Center will continue to host the event. With four courts playing in one building, all at once, this year's Governor's Challenge will be a basketball lover's dream!
This year’s Governor’s Challenge Holiday Basketball Festival will take place December 26-29th, 2013 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center in Salisbury, MD. This event is open to the public.
