Grand Slam hosts Community Pizza Night for Epworth Skate Project
Epworth Skate Project held a community fundraiser Feb. 19, at Grotto’s Grand Slam in Lewes. The event was an opportunity for youth and families to show their support for the Skate Project. Local skateboarders are happy that a skate park will be built in the near future.
"I'm happy to know I'll be able to skate somewhere that's local and ours. It's cool that people are starting to acknowledge us," said skateboarder Aaron Lester. "There has not been a public skate park in Rehoboth since the 1980s."
Matt Carter, owner of Quest Fitness, is enthusiastic about having a local skate park again. “Skateboarders are athletes. It’s not just about team sports. Skateboarding is another way for youth to stay healthy and active,” said Carter.
The Skate Project is raising funds to build a concrete skate park at Epworth UM Church on Holland Glade Road in Rehoboth. For more information about the project, go to www.eumcrb.org/sk8.
