A 19-year-old Greenwood woman faces attempted murder and other charges after police say she stabbed her boyfriend in the back of the neck with a steak knife.

Delaware State Police charged LaRhonda D. Jones following an incident about 5:15 p.m., March 16, in the 21000 block of Mill Park Drive in Bridgeville.

Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said the 33-year-old male victim was visiting with relatives in Bridgeville when Jones, his girlfriend, began arguing with him in the driveway. Fournier said the victim told Jones numerous times to leave, but she went to her car and retrieved a steak knife from the driver's side. As the victim turned away from her, Fournier said, she stabbed him once in the back of the neck with the knife and then left in her car.

As a friend drove the victim to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, they spotted a trooper on a traffic stop and pulled in behind the cruiser to report the incident. Fournier said the victim also told the trooper about a threatening text message he said he had received earlier in the day in which Jones wrote she was going to kill him. The victim was then taken to Nanticoke Hospital where he was treated for severe injury.

Troopers arrested Jones at her home in Greenwood. She has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, first-degree reckless endangering, aggravated menacing and terroristic threatening.

Jones was arraigned and committed to Baylor Women's Correctional Institution on $141,000 cash bond.
