Lewes — Half Full, the pint-sized restaurant known for its gourmet pizza, fine wines and selection of craft beer, is making a move to Second Street in Lewes.

The restaurant has made a name for itself since opening in January 2007, building a loyal following in its small space in the center of Market Street. Owner Matt DiSabatino said he hopes to recreate Half Full's quaint environment in its new location at the corner of Second and Bank streets.

“We don't want to be a lot bigger,” said DiSabatino, who also owns Kindle and Striper Bites in Lewes. “We think what our customers like about Half Full is that it is small, uniquely small. We want to continue to have that appeal in that sense.”

The new location next to Kindle is just a block away from its current home. DiSabatino said the width of the restaurant is within a few inches of the current building, but it is a bit deeper, which allows for a bigger kitchen and a few more dining room seats. He also expects more space for outside dining.

No timeline has been set as the company assesses how much renovation to the interior of the building must be done. The city's commercial and architectural review committee has already approved the plan for exterior work.

But until construction is complete DiSabatino said, customers do not have to worry about Half Full's current location closing.

“The nice thing about this process is we're already up and running and will continue running while we make the transformation,” he said. “Our good friend and landlord understands our position and is willing to cooperate.”

Half Full is open at 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. To view the menu, go to www.halffulllewes.com.
