Harrington man sought in connection with child's death
Delaware State Police are searching for a 44-year-old Harrington man who they say was involved with the death of a 7-month-old girl.
James E. Hammond and his girlfriend were watching 7-month-old Aubri N. Thompson while Aubri's parents were on vacation out of state, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
Thompson and his girlfriend brought Aubri to Milford Memorial Hospital Feb. 28 after they said she fell from a crib a day earlier at Thompson's home in the 200 block of Commerce Street, Harrington, Fournier said.
Aubri was unresponsive; attempts to revive her at the hospital were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead, Fournier said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy March 1 and determined Aubri's death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma.
Police have been unable to contact Hammond. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Det. Mark Ryde at 531-5891 or 1-800-TIP-3333, go to www.tipsubmit.com, text 274637 using keyword DSP or download an app at http://www.delaware.gov/apps/.
