Hebron Church members seek documents

By Nellie Adams & Pat Lawson | Mar 13, 2014

We are in the process of getting the Hebron MP Church on the National Register of Historic Places. The church is located at 18282 Seashore Hwy., Route 18, also known as Bridgeville Highway, Georgetown. The church was established in 1888. We have a copy of the original deed.

The original trustees were Cyrus Legates, David Wilson, Willard King and John H. Day. William H. Wilson, I.T. Adams was the notary public and I. P. Morris was the recorder on the deed. John H. Day and his wife, Maria L. Day had provided land for the exchange of $25 for the purpose of religious worship. On the deed it is noted King School #54. There was a meeting held, dated April 4-6, 1888, to discuss this. Even though in some parts of the deed are hard to read, it is believed the King School #54 and the Hebron MP Church history is connected.

We are asking for any pictures or printed matter that will help build a timeline from conception to present. We do have some records of 1921, 1939-41, 1957, 1962 – present. You may contact Nellie Adams, treasurer, Hebron Church, 21902 Vaughn Road, Georgetown (856-7996) or Pat Lawson, Atlantic Screen, 142 Broadkill Road, Milton (684-3197). We will be glad to copy the records if you want the records back or we can keep for the history collection.
