Helen George Murphey, DuPont Co. retiree
Helen George Murphey, 97, a long-time resident of Odessa, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at the Cadbury at Lewes retirement community.
A graduate of Middletown High School and Beacom College (now known as Goldey-Beacom College), Helen retired from the DuPont Company in 1975 after more than 38 years of service.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband George W. Murphey in 1993. While Helen left no immediate family members, she is survived by Julia Galindo and Alexander Galindo (whom Helen viewed as niece and nephew and who brought her much joy). Additional survivors include Beverly Toulson (a niece of Helen's late husband) and several Vance Neck Road neighbors and DuPont co-workers - all of whom remained in contact with Helen until her death, as well as faithful members of Richardson Park United Methodist Church (which, for more than 30 years, connected regularly with Helen through regular visits, notes and prayers).
Following Helen's relocation to Cadbury in 2009, Helen also appreciated, very much, the loving attention she received from Cadbury's health care staff (including, most recently, companions Wanda Brennan, Pat Vahlsing and Sharon Popo). At Helen's request, her funeral will be a graveside service at Old Drawyers Cemetery, Middletown, ( just north of Odessa) Thursday, June 12, at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made, in Helen's memory, to a charity of the donor's choice.
