Helen Wilson Warren, Lewes native
Helen Wilson Warren, 91, of Newark, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Westminster Healthcare Center in Dover. Helen was born in Lewes Nov. 17, 1921, to the late John Wilson and Blanche Collins Wilson. She resided in Lewes until attending the University of Delaware where she received a degree in education in 1943. While in college, she met John Warren, her future husband and the love of her life. After graduation, Helen and John lived briefly in the Philadelphia area, where Helen taught first grade at Friends Central School.
Helen spent most of her adult life in Newark, where she was a homemaker and devoted mother to her two daughters, Jacqueline and Donna. Helen loved playing tennis, golf and bridge. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, first in Newark and subsequently in Dover.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John R. Warren (July 7, 2003); and her brother, James Wilson. Helen and John were married for 59 years. She is survived by her daughters and two grandchildren. Jacqueline Warren and her partner Kathleen Anderson live in Philadelphia, Pa. Donna Boswell and her husband Joseph live in Dover with their children, Lauren and Nicholas Boswell.
Memorial services will be 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to The Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village, 866 North DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
