The 37th Community Citizen of the Year was recognized at Henlopen Grange No. 20 April 15. The awardee was Jason Harris, a 17-year-old junior at Cape Henlopen High School.

Harris has a goal of spreading suicide and self-harm awareness. Harris accomplishes this through his twitter account @bulletproofh0pe. With this account he is able to reach out to all of his 12,000 followers and offer support and encouragement to overcome their struggles. His account has been up for 11 months and has attracted 12,000 followers and allowed him to save 35 lives.

Harris has won the Jefferson Award and was chosen as a finalist for the Teen Activism category at the Shorty Awards in Manhattan, N.Y. In his spare time Harris is always looking to put a smile on someone’s face. When not found on his twitter account he can be found on the tennis court or in the kitchen, baking.

The Henlopen Grange always invites former Community Citizen of the Year recipients to the annual Community Citizen of the Year meetings. Shown (l-r) are 2012 recipient Gloria Harris, 2007 recipients Alfred and Caddie Ann Joseph and 1987 recipient Hazel Brittingham. (Photo by: Steven Billups)
