Hockey for Haxton brought out community

By Michael ‘Ike’ Eisenhour | Jan 10, 2013

Thanks to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make the Hockey for Haxton & Easter Seals Benefit a success this past December. This benefit is in memory of Amanda Haxton, a Delaware Shore and Cape Henlopen High School field hockey athlete, who passed away as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

This year’s event should result in a grant to the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown and a grant to Sarah More, a Delaware Shore senior. Each grant will to be in excess of $1,000.

Danielle Renken, a former classmate of Haxton, chairs this two-day event. Sue Lore is the chairperson of the awards committee, which is staffed by Amanda Frampton, Bobby McIlvain, Kit Haxton, Renken, and Mike Eisenhour.

Special thanks goes to all our volunteer umpires who gave a considerable amount of time to officiate the games: Jenna Steele, Erin Ricker, Jacki Coveleski, Christine Bristowe, Lloyd Lee Heite, Sam Coveleski, Andrea Fleming, Karli Swope, Faye Smith, Cricket Morris, Nancy Neeman, Buster Neeman, Amanda Frampton, Stacie Spicer, Kaci Coveleski, Lexi Gooch, Debbie Windett, Sydney Ostroski, Anna Steiner, Gabby Lopez, Isabel Carulli, Brittany Betts and Rachel Hagan.

Assisting with registration and the raffles were: Renken, Lowe and Chelsey Shellenberger. Stephanie Brown and Carrie LeMaire organized and coordinated the staffing of the concessions area.

The committee is already starting planning for the 2013 event, which is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 21-22, 2013. Registration information can be found on the Delaware Shore website in late summer.
