Home of the Brave article off base
I believe your reporter Ron MacArthur needs to do some background investigation on Harry Robertson, Vietnam Era veteran. The Home of the Brave has suffered poor management for the last few years. Residents were poorly served at Home of the Brave as two recent directors failed to perform the duties assigned. The state of Delaware does not have a residence for homeless women veterans, especially those with children.
In November 2011, Linda Boone gathered together members of the Korean War Veterans Association and asked for support in the mission of providing a women's shelter. She called upon all the service organizations for help in finding funding for the facility. She used her skills in writing grant applications for federal funding.
I don't remember Harry Robertson volunteering to obtain funding or writing grant applications. I understand that an applicant for the director's position, who was not selected for the permanent position, joined with this unhappy Harry Robertson in this campaign.
The residents of Home of the Brave are homeless, drug addicted, alcohol addicted individuals needing a path to return or enter society. They need direction, discipline, encouragement. Their skills must be assessed, routines developed, a no nonsense schedule of work for reward must be established in order to break the habits that put these individuals in Home of the Brave.
I have had the pleasure of working with Linda Boone; she has traveled all over Delaware trying to improve the lives of homeless men and women. As the President of KWVA Chapter One I find this article demeaning, and with few facts. The chapter has raised $6,000 for the women's shelter; hopefully we will able to continue to contribute. We need fewer Harry Robertsons and more Linda Boones if we are to succeed.
