Its true, major hurricanes don't hit the U.S. every year. But if you live near the coast, someday you may have to face a category 3 or worse. could be this year. Could be next.
The only way to protect yourself is to be ready every year. Allstate and me Paul Sarnak your local Delmarva Allstate agent want to help make doing that as easy as possible. Here is part 1 of 5.
Is your coverage up to date?
You should make sure your coverage reflects the current state of your home. So if you have done anything that increases the value of your home or its contents, like building an addition or remodeling, you should have a insurance review to see if coverage's need updated.
Do you have additional living expenses?
This coverage is intended to help pay for the increased cost of living away from your home if your house is uninhabitable due to a covered loss. This may include payments for cost of food and a place to stay.
Do you have coverage for Floods?
Most homeowner policies do not usually cover flood damage. And here is something to think about: One-third of all flood insurance claims last year came from areas not considered high risk. So even if you don't live in a flood zone, you may want to consider purchasing flood coverage. There is often a 30 day waiting period after you buy a flood policy before coverage take place.
Do you have comprehensive car coverage?
If your car is damaged by anything other than a collision, like a falling tree, collision coverage won't protect you. Generally comprehensive coverage is not a very expensive option to add on a policy. And if you have to leave your car at the shop, you'll also want to consider rental car coverage.
you should never have to face a storm alone. That's Allstate's stand.
