Is it rude to care about the First Amendment?

By Joan DeCandia | Mar 03, 2014

Is it rude to expect our Senators and Congressmen to be aware of the FCC plan to require newsrooms and radio stations be overseen by an FCC monitor? This intent had been in the news for several days before their offices were contacted, and should have been familiar to them.

Recent calls to our Senators and Congressman’s offices revealed that not one was aware or had an opinion on the FCC’s plan to shred our First Amendment rights. Is it rude to expect that they should be prepared to give their opinion or answer questions? Some who were contacted thought it was.

One office contacted revealed that the Senator would have to study the issue to find out how he should feel about it. Should a Senator have to read the FCC proposal to monitor and censor our news so he may understand our First Amendment rights are being snatched from us?

If only our representatives were as studious about reading the ponderous Obamacare bill before recklessly signing us up!

Is the FCC’s attempt to dispense with the First Amendment so difficult for them to understand that time is needed to ponder such a complicated matter? This should be a no-brainer for United States Senators and Congressmen. They are Americans, aren’t they?
