J. Richards 'Dick' Woods, retired teacher

J. Richards "Dick" Wood, 82, of Millsboro, formerly of Lancaster, Pa., went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 30, 2014.

Dick was born April 7, 1931, in Glen Ridge, N.J., son of the late Arthur Morris and Elizabeth (Richards) Wood Jr. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-54. Dick was also a graduate of the University of Delaware where he received both his undergraduate and master's degree in education.

Dick began his teaching career in the public school system in 1963 at the Solanco School District in Pennsylvania and retired from the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center in 1988. Dick enjoyed RVing, gardening, woodworking, reading and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Morris Wood III and Donald Moore Wood. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Jo (Core) Wood; three children, Pamela (Alan) Hershey, Andrew (Kathy) Wood and Joel (Kym) Wood; a sister, Martha (Earl) Jorgensen; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, April 9, at noon at the Long Neck United Methodist Church, 32051 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Dick's name to the Long Neck United Methodist Church at the above address or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
