James F. Brown, lifelong firefighter
James F. "Jim Buddy" Brown, 79, of Dagsboro, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at William Hill Manor in Easton, Md. after a long illness while surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born Feb. 20, 1934, in West Virginia. Jim had many careers in his lifetime; he served in the Army prior to finding his lifelong love of the fire department. Jim was a life member of the Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department and a career firefighter in the District of Columbia Fire Department for 22 years. Jim also operated three Christmas tree farms and lastly operated his own painting company.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Patricia Brown; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Robert Cooper; a son, Robert Brown; three stepsons, David and Renee Ayres, Dennis and Patricia Ayres and Donald Ayres. Jim is also survived by five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Nevin Brown, Janet Love and Dale Brown. Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Whitehurst.
A memorial service will be held in Jim’s honor Wednesday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rdoad, Ocean View, where friends and family may gather anytime after 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
