James O. Wright Jr., DuPont retiree
James O. Wright Jr. of Millsboro, 96, passed away peacefully Thanksgiving evening, Nov. 22, 2012, after suffering a stroke Oct. 13. Jim was a gregarious personality whom many had come to love. He truly was a special person and storyteller who made many smile.
From his birth in Choptank, Md., through his life, Jim lived many places and experienced much. JO attended the University of Maryland and was a graduate of Temple University. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Pacific as a naval line officer. He had worked for the Preston and Elliott Bros. trucking companies as well as BF Goodrich.
His career took him to the DuPont Co. as a sales rep in the freon products division as well as being a manager in the Orchem division. He was also a master mason. Wherever he went in life he made friendships, many of which endure to this day. Jim’s other passions in life included golf and fishing. He had many good times trolling his native Chesapeake for rock as well as hitting that perfect shot right down the fairway.
In retirement, he had toured the country with his beloved wife Dot in a motor home and enjoyed cherished friends and memories while living many years in south Florida. He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, most notably, Samantha.
James is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy of Millsboro; his son, Dr. James Wright and wife Tina of Millsboro; his daughter Ann Bowerman of Albuquerque, N.M.; and his son William Wright and wife Jerry of Rising Sun, Md. Survivors also include three grandsons, James Wright of New York City, Turner Bowerman of Albuquerque and William Wright Jr. of Rising Sun.
The family wishes to thank all for their thoughts and prayers. Jim was truly one of a kind and will be missed. Memorial service and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware SPCA, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947.
