Joanne Ciconte, Cape Region volunteer
Joanne Ciconte, 74, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, in Lewes. She was born in Wilmington March 18, 1939, daughter of the late William A. Sr. and Marguerite Mary Ciconte.
Joanne was a Wilmington native, a graduate of St. Elizabeth's High School and she earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Delaware. She worked in human resources with the Bank of Delaware (now PNC) for 38 years, having designed their employee benefits program. After adding an early retirement option to the bank's benefits package, Joanne took advantage of her own ingenuity and retired early, in 1994. She and her partner, Cissy Johnson, moved downstate together full time in 2004. Joanne and Cissy were married in July, 2013.
Joanne loved music; she played orchestra bells with the Milford Community Band and the Rehoboth Concert Band. She also sang in the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus and St. George's Chapel choir.
Joanne Ciconte volunteered her time and effort to all kinds of wonderful organizations! She served as treasurer of the Rehoboth Concert Band, treasurer of the Episcopal Church Women of St. George's Chapel, and treasurer of the Annual Christmas Shop of Rehoboth Beach. She donated her time to the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, CAMP Rehoboth and All Saints' Thrift Shop.
In addition to her parents, Joanne is preceded in death by her sister, Angelamarie B. Ciconte. She is survived by her loving spouse, Clarissa Johnson; a brother, William A. Ciconte Jr. of Wilmington; and a nephew, William A. Cinconte III of Florida.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m., at her beloved St. George's Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road (Route 23), Harbeson, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at the historical St. George's Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a donation to one of Joanne's favorite nonprofit organizations mentioned above. These groups work locally to advance the arts, to help the needy, to promote peace, harmony and diversity in our community.
