Joyce Mattison Jones (nee Heckman), 85, of Townsend, passed away surrounded by her family,Thursday, April 17, 2014. She was born July 10, 1928, to the late Arlington and Lena Heckman in Nazareth, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Sanford M. Mattison; her second love, William "Bill" Jones, of seven years; her son, Wilbur "Bill" Mattison; her oldest sister, Elaine Drake; and her stepmother, Ruth Heckman.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandi and Vince Gennusa, and Peggy and Tom O'Brien; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Doris and husband Larry Godown, and Lois Heckman; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by Bill Jones Jr. , his wife Kathy, and their children.

Joyce was retired from Jefferson-Smurfitt Corp. (formerly Container Corporation) where she worked in accounting and payroll. Grandmom loved to entertain her grandchildren with Christmas bingo and playing Mrs. Claus. Other pastimes included crocheting, doing word puzzles, and travelling with her bowling friends all over the United States competing in the Women's International Bowling Tournament. She served on the Board of Directors for the WWBA for several years and, after moving downstate, was a member of the VFW in Millsboro, where she enjoyed being involved with all the activities there. Joyce enjoyed spending time at the New Horizons Adult Day Care Center, where she will be greatly missed by her many friends and caregivers.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 23 in the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 24, at the Chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, where an additional viewing will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the service in the adjoining cemetery.
