Julie Molyneux Hoenen, Cape Region artist

Jun 16, 2014

Lewes-based artist Julie Molyneux Hoenen, 59, passed away suddenly at her home June 13, 2014.

Born in Paris, Ill., to Tom and Rosemary Molyneux, Hoenen traveled Europe before attending art school at Montgomery College in Maryland.

Possessed of a lively sense of humor and a lifelong intellectual curiosity, Hoenen pursued art while working as a bartender at Lewes and Rehoboth restaurants.

Hoenen painted items collected from Delaware’s beaches before becoming a prolific watercolor artist. She then moved into oils, producing a series of works of the desert Southwest which was selected for the 2002 National Arts for the Parks competition. More recently, Hoenen depicted scenes from coastal Delaware.

Hoenen is survived by her husband of 27 years, Rick Hoenen; her stepdaughter Leah Hoenen; her brother, Mike Molyneux; and her extended family.

A memorial gathering will be held at Parsell Funeral Home in Lewes Thursday, June 19, from 6 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Lewes Fire Department.
