Juried watercolor exhibition opens Sept. 6 at Biggs MuseumOpening reception 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6 in Dover
The Sewell C. Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover will display 32 paintings by members of the Delaware Watercolor Society from Sept. 6 to Oct. 17.
Founded in May 2004 by a handful of local artists, the Delaware Watercolor Society has grown to 120 members. The society actively works toward fostering high-quality, professional art and creative contributions to the Delaware community through educational events, exhibitions, workshops and other activities.

DWS President Elizabeth Collard said, “DWS is thrilled to return to the Biggs Museum in Dover for our fourth juried exhibition at this wonderful venue. We invite everyone to join us at the opening reception Friday, Sept. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. to view the selected paintings and enjoy some light refreshments.”
Award-winning artist and educator Jean K. Gill served as juror and awards judge. Gill, a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society, said, “It was an honor to spend an afternoon in the Biggs Museum selecting 32 works from a strong field of paintings submitted by the talented members of the Delaware Watercolor Society. Those who visit the show will be treated to an impressive array of original watermedia at its best in a variety of styles, subjects and techniques."
The winners in the exhibition include first place, John Hassler, "Cycle Side"; second place, Doris Davis-Glackin, "Motion in the Garden"; and third place, Susan Johnston, "Spring Finale." Merit Award winners are Riva Brown, Elizabeth Forsythe and Gail Zinar.
