Kelsey Harris graduates from Oklahoma State Veterinary College

May 17, 2014

Kelsey Harris of Rehoboth Beach was among 90 veterinary students who recently earned a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Oklahoma’s only veterinary college at Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. She is the daughter of Richard and Susan Harris of Rehoboth Beach.

Graduates with a degree in veterinary medicine can follow one of a number of career options. Some chose private veterinary practice; others serve in the military as veterinarians in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps or as public health officers in the U.S. Air Force, while some pursue the pharmaceutical industry, academia or biomedical research.

“Oklahoma State veterinarians are highly sought after,” says Dr. Jean Sander, dean of the veterinary center. “Our graduates are known for being competent and practice ready. The skills and knowledge they have learned at Oklahoma State allow them to walk into a practice and hit the ground running, minimizing the new employee learning curve. On average, each graduate has one to two job offers. We’re extremely proud of the class of 2014 and look forward to following their successes in the years ahead.”

After graduation, Harris plans to work in small animal emergency medicine in South Carolina.
