Kids Cottage welcomed special guests to interact with the students Oct. 23-24 and also Oct. 28-29. The first guest was Otto the Auto. Otto is a remote control talking car from the Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education.

Otto talked to the children about traffic safety and encouraged the students about the importance of buckling safety belts, sitting in child safety seats and wearing bicycle helmets.

Shown interacting with Otto are (l-r) Hudson Brockstedt, Julia DiSabatino, Haley Gamuciello and Nate Juliano.

The second special guest was Teacher Naturalist Sue Tolbert from Abbott’s Mill Nature Center, the Southern Arm of the Delaware Nature Society. Tolbert talked about nature’s “Unhuggables,” slimy, prickly and soft. Showing the students prickly in the form of a Striped Burr Fish interests Sadie Fleming, left, and Kennedy Groves. Another prickly sample was a nut from a chestnut tree. Alec Kalinewski reaches in for a touch. (Photo by: Steven Billups)
