Kody O'Bear visits Discovery Island Preschool to end school year
The Kody O'Bear Early Learning Program ended its third year with a visit to the Discovery Island Preschool in Dagsboro. Kody O'Bear is the six-foot-tall live teddy bear and ambassador for the Kody's Kids charity that provides the early learning program to area schools. Kody assisted the volunteer teachers by helping the children develop a passion for reading, learning about fruits and vegetables and the importance of exercise.
Program Director Philip Brown thanked the volunteer teachers and coordinators who made this program possible. The Early Learning Program worked with more than 200 preschoolers in various schools and programs in Lewes, Milton, Georgetown, Dagsboro and Sebyville. With student participation and poems and songs from Kody O'Bear himself, the students had a great time learning.
The students also learned about bullying and how not to be a bully in a story time lesson. The volunteers who made the Early Learning Program possible are Program Coordinator Hilary Nelson, Curriculum Coordinator Mary Jo Venerus and volunteer teachers Byna Groveston, Carolyn Bacon, Debbie Dorris, Donna Blomquist, Georgette Greason, Jill Linden, Joleen McNeil, Kaye Webb and Susanne Worrell.
