Leaders need to step in on film festival

By Elaine Simmerman | Jun 05, 2014

I am writing to join others in my personal commitment to think deeply and creatively about a way to keep the film festival in our Lewes/Rehoboth community. I challenge local government and business leaders to make the same commitment.

Our annual film festival has broadened, entertained and informed me. Each November I look forward to gathering with other movie fans who discuss stimulating ideas, foreign cultures, creative effects, and the unique human situations that these wonderful movies provide us. There is shared laughter and tears, fear and excitement - a whole range of human emotion and experience is explored and shared with the people in the theater audience.

This atmosphere encourages direct communication and sharing with others. Unlike seeing movies at home or on a hand-held device, the movies chosen for our film festival can bring forth a strong shared experience. These are specially chosen movies and they can change you.

People come here from all over the country in November because it is “the best film festival in the country.” Yes, several people told me that last year. Let’s all do what we can to save this excellent event!
