Lewes Dragon Boat Festival amazing
This past Sunday, in my opinion, quite possibly went down as one the most amazing days I have ever experienced as a Lewes resident. As we all know it was the inaugural Dragon Boat Festival in the canalfront park! If anyone missed it, I sure hope for your sake that this wildly successful day will return again next year.
From the early morning hours town was humming with a sense of energy and excitement that resonated throughout the local community which lasted well into the late afternoon. The weather was ideal. Businesses were thriving. People and families were out in full force enjoying our park to the max!
For all of us who participated in this newly-found, ultra-competitive team water sport, I can't imagine that any of us were aware of the overall joy and sense of accomplishment that we were about to experience. The result of 21 people getting together to accomplish one goal as a team was overwhelmingly rewarding for all of us. Our team's involvement originated with the thought that we would help support a local charity while participating in a new original water activity. W
hile this was all true, we could not have imagined the sense of bond, support and flat out fun we would all have with one another many hours later had it not been for those long skinny boats. Days later, my wife and I continue to break down every paddle stoke, high five, hug and laugh following each race. It's awesome.
I applaud and have a tremendous amount of respect for the organizers and volunteers who spent many hours of their personal time who made this day possible. To pull off an event like this takes commitment, passion, and hard work. You all made it happen. Thank you.
To the people of Dynamic Dragon Boats, you all are first class! You're entrepreneurial spirit is very inspiring. We are all enhanced by your sport and the way you teach it. To our mayor and city council, thank you.
Finally, to Lewes! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it did! How lucky are we? Paddles up!
