Lewes in Bloom starts fundraising drive for Children's Learning Garden

Bethany Blues will donate portion of proceeds Feb. 25
Feb 20, 2013

Fundraising is in high gear to make the Lewes in Bloom Children’s Learning Garden a reality. Construction funding has been given a boost with the award of a $3,500 grant from Sussex County Council. With this grant, Lewes in Bloom is halfway to its fundraising goal to begin construction on the garden.

The Children’s Learning Garden committee has scheduled a dine-out fundraiser at Bethany Blues Monday, Feb. 25. Customers who eat at Bethany Blues for lunch or dinner that day and present the server with a fundraising coupon will have 10 percent of their bill donated to the Children’s Learning Garden.

Coupons can be printed from www.lewesinbloom.org, and representatives from the Children’s Learning Garden committee will be at Bethany Blues from 4 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25 with coupons.

The garden near the Lewes Public Library in Stango Park will benefit youth in the area by promoting an understanding and respect for nature and the environment; provide opportunities for hands-on learning, inquiry, observation and experimentation; encourage healthier lifestyles in terms of nutrition and exercise; and teach children to nurture and care for other living things while developing patience. Programs at the garden will be given by certified childhood educators and horticulture experts. It will also provide opportunities for enhancing the children’s storytelling program of the Lewes Public Library.
