Lewes library design designs need revision

By Sylvia Johnson | Jul 12, 2013

Being a new resident in Lewes (nearly four years) and viewing the two dull concepts proposed for the new library brought disappointment. Either rendition invited me into a brand new sports complex complete with table tennis, indoor swimming pool, boxing ring, etc. and functional rows of lockers.

The current library has significant presence and is architecturally pleasing to look at, cozy inside the first floor, and encourages, albeit temporary, quiet reading in a charming setting. Indeed, it beautifully complements and enhances the historical town it serves.

I do hope the Historic Preservation Commission takes a breather and a step back in time to offer something with an appropriate style and a little comfortable grace fitting for Lewes.
