Lewes library event a great success

By Candace Vessella | Jun 14, 2014

The Friends of the Lewes Public Library would like to express our deep appreciation to all who made our sunset cruise fundraiser aboard the Cape Water Taxi Discovery not only possible, but a great success!

Several local businesses were instrumental to the success. Matt DiSabatino and Chef Ian Crandall, owners of KindleHalf Full and Striper Bites restaurants, were very generous in contributing the ingredients used by Chef Angela Mershon for the delicious food served to our guests.

The Dogfish Head Brewery, through its Beer & Benevolence philanthropic branch, donated a wonderful variety of delicious beers.  The wines served during the cruise were specially selected by Teller Wines owner Kevin Hester to compliment the menu. Captain Dave Green, owner of the Cape Water Taxi worked to ensure our plans were on track, and with Captain Steve at the helm along with First Mate Madie, we had smooth sailing and a great view of a beautiful sunset at the conclusion of our cruise.

We were very fortunate to have Dr. Charles E. Epifanio, Harrington Professor of Marine Science from the School of Marine Science and Policy, University of Delaware, with us during the cruise. Dr. Epifanio, a world renowned scientist who has a wonderful sense of humor, provided guests with an understanding of the canal’s history and the importance of salt marshes as storm surge buffers, one of the most important and productive natural ecosystems and habitat for birds, mammals and invertebrates. Richard Scalenghe, an accomplished musician, treated us to beautiful classical guitar selections, making it a very memorable event indeed.

And last, but certainly not least, we would like to thank our cruise guests for their enthusiasm and support of the Lewes Public Library through their ticket purchases. We value your support and thank you for being a part of this special inaugural event in support of the Lewes Public Library.
