Lewes library hosting Great Decisions series starting April 3
The Lewes Public Library is partnering with Wilmington University to offer an eight-part Great Decisions discussion series, a program sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association and designed to encourage debate and discussion of important global issues.
This program is offered at libraries, schools and other organizations throughout the country. Lewes Public Library patron Sue Saliba attended a Great Decisions program at a library in Naples, Fla., and thought the series would be a good fit for the Lewes community.
The first meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 3. Space is limited, and registration is required. Participants may register by visiting tinyurl.com/lplgreatdecisions2014 or by calling the library at 302-645-2733.
The sessions will be led by Lynn Moore and Gary Wray. Moore is the chair of the history department and an assistant professor at Wilmington University as well as the general studies program coordinator for the Georgetown and Rehoboth campuses. Wray is a retired teacher and administrator, and is currently an adjunct professor at Wilmington University. He is also the president of the Fort Miles Historical Association.
The Great Decisions program was created in 1954 by the Foreign Policy Association. Through the course materials and thoughtful discourse, participants are encouraged to express their ideas and opinions on issues and learn from others. The issues to be discussed in this session are Defense Technology, Israel & the U.S., Turkey’s Challenges, Islamic Awakening, Energy Independence, Food & Climate, China’s Foreign Policy, and U.S. Trade Policy. Participants will receive a Great Decisions Briefing Book and will be asked to review each topic before attending the discussion session.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of Lewes Public Library. For more information about this and other library programs, call the library, 302-645-2733, or go to www.leweslibrary.org.
