A 27-year-old Lewes man turned himself in to face burglary charges after police received calls from people recognizing him from a surveillance camera photo released May 13.

A few hours after the photo was released, Casey S. Wiedman, 27, of Lewes was charged with second-degree burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, drug dealing, possession of burglary tools, theft of a firearm, theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief.

Police said Wiedman broke into three homes in Sand Dune Village between 1 and 7 a.m. March 9. He ransacked the homes removing loose change; he took 12 guns from one home, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

Police searched Wiedman's home on May 13 and found the 12 stolen guns and a .45-caliber handgun that he had during the burglaries, Fournier said. Police also found 148 grams of marijuana packaged for sale and drug paraphernalia, he said.

“The Delaware State Police would like to thank the public for their continued support, involvement, and vigilance in providing information and reporting suspicious persons and activity,” Fournier said.

Wiedman was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $84,250 secured bail.
