Lewes man charged with fourth DUI
A 56-year-old Lewes man faces charges after police say he drove into another car while under the influence of alcohol – his fourth offense.
David L. Esch was driving a 1998 Lincoln Town Car at 9:15 a.m. May 5 eastbound on Route 24 approaching Dorman Road when he drove into the westbound lane and collided with an oncoming car, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
Raymond J. Trolan, 47, of Millsboro was driving a 1995 BMW 525 when he was struck; Trolan was taken to Beebe Healthcare where he was admitted with a severe injury to his leg, Fournier said.
Esch was treated and released for nonlife-threatening injuries at Beebe Healthcare.
Esch was charged with fourth offense driving under the influence of alcohol – convicted 3/3/2006, 5/4/2001 and 9/14/2012 – first-degree vehicular assault, driving while suspended and revoked, no proof of insurance and other traffic offenses. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $7,300 cash bond.
