The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club awarded 10 scholarships to area students as part of the 2014 Eschenbach, Moore, and Gallery Scholarship Awards. The College Scholarship Award went to Madison Long, a Cape Henlopen graduate who will attend American University in the fall to study film and editing. She would like to produce television shows in the future. Long created a promotional video for the after-school enrichment program titled “Cape Carousel.”

Three nursing students - Brynn Thompson, Christina Hanna and Chloe Charlsen - received $1,000 each to help with expenses for their second year of nursing school at the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing. “I think nursing is what I’m supposed to be doing because God keeps giving me money,” said Charlsen as she thanked Rotary members for their generosity.

Six additional students received special awards of $250 each: Ethan Caldwell of Sussex Tech for his project, Acupuncture; Taylor Dockety of Sussex Tech for her project, Digital Publishing and Print Design; Austin MacCoy of Cape Henlopen for his project, Graphics and Photography; Sydney Miller of Cape Henlopen for his Spray Attention invention;  Claudia Ratner of Cape Henlopen for her project, Photos of Artwork and Clothing Line; and Francesco Madera of Cape Henlopen, whose project was Photography.

“We had so many great applicants that we decided to expand the project,” said Georgiann Deist, chair of the selection committee.
